Edith Moorhouse Primary School

April 21st 2026

At Edith Moorhouse Primary School in Oxfordshire, our team transformed a neglected PE storage space into a vibrant, dedicated library to redefine the school’s relationship with literacy. More than just a space for books, the school wanted to foster a genuine reading for pleasure culture for all pupils, approximately one third of whom are from families serving in the RAF. They also have a high percentage of pupils with SEND.

Through investing in their library, Edith Moorhouse hoped to bridge the engagement gap for reluctant readers, providing a diverse range of titles that reflect pupils' interests.

"Ultimately, the objective was to ensure that every child, regardless of their starting point, has access
to a beautiful space that inspires a lifelong love of reading."

Maximising a small space

Funded entirely through school fundraising and grants, it was imperative that the new library really made the most of the space available. Our Interior Designers opted to maximise display space with a variety of shelving options – and a focus on forward-facing and adjustable shelves for flexibility and increased pupil engagement.

Having additional, moveable shelving on castors means that shelves can be brought out into the hall then put away as required, affording the school maximum flexibility.

Always popular with schools, our Interior Designers also drew on a nature and woodland-theme to create a relaxed, calming environment.

"The transformation of our library space has been nothing short of extraordinary. Peters took our vision and turned it into a vibrant, functional reality that has completely revitalized our school’s reading culture. Seeing our pupils so genuinely excited about reading is the best result we could have asked for.”
