The Bromley Pensnett Primary School

July 24th 2025

One of The Bromley Pensnett Primary School's 'mission drivers' is placing reading at the heart of their academic provision, and they were keen to reflect this in their brand new library space! The school got in touch with Peters' Interior Design team for help in transforming their previous library into a "top class" space that demonstrates their commitment to reading.
The brief

Bromley Pensnett were keen to make their new library a 'centrepiece' for their reading for pleasure offer, aspiring to a "top class" statement space reflecting their commitment to reading. Their previous school library was spacious but lacked bespoke design elements, and had not been thoughtfully designed to match the school's vision.

What they wanted was a 'calm, warm and welcoming' library for the children, staff and community – one that would feel like a special space within the school.

Reading for pleasure

A range of book displays were placed throughout the library to create an engaging and open layout. Senior Interior Designer Helena utilised a mixture of low level book shelving and front facing book displays, to develop an inviting space for pupils to browse and share books.

Dynamic book displays

Engaging book displays including our nature themed book display house and bird house den were thoughtfully arranged, encouraging independent exploration and increasing pupils' accessibility of books.

Calm and welcoming

The school were uncertain on the design aesthetic, but knew they wanted their library to be a warm, inviting space for pupils. Senior Interior Designer Helena incorporated our stylish Postura+ chairs and a neutral colour palette, to build a calming reading space.

Nature inspired elements such as our comfortable tree stump stools, alongside our grab and go seasonal cushions were integrated into the design, featuring beautiful meadow prints, to bring a peaceful outdoor environment into the new library.

"We loved how Peters took these broad conceptual ideas onboard and generated designs for the children to choose from."
